ABOUT MUM

ABOUT MY MUM

Mum certainly grabbed attention whenever she was in a room, come to think of it she was just as loud and to the point outside too. She could not do enough for anyone, and often cooked and delivered food to neighbours and friends whether they were hungry or not! Mum loved cooking, she wanted everyone to try her food. Her outgoing personality meant she made so many friends where ever she lived. Mum travelled a lot due to my Dad being in the Army for 17 years being posted in Germany, Yorkshire, Dorset & Belfast.
Raising  3 sons during this time and spending a lot of this time alone while Dad was away on army exercise was quite lonely for her so she found comfort in cooking but this also had an impact on her personal health & well-being.
She loved her family more than life itself and cherished the friendships she made over the years.
In her final years after my dad passing we managed to get her into a bungalow in Colney Heath where she loved living as she had a huge garden. Mum had green fingers and everything she planted grew like wildfire. Onions, Cabbage, Beetroot, Spring Onions, Strawberries and an abundance of fresh herbs and chillies. Most she used for here cooking so you could not get fresher than that. She enjoyed seeing people she knew from the days we loved in Cutmore Drive and most were sent away after long chats with a handful of veg and herbs or a spider plant. We all miss her very much and feel very happy she managed to enjoy the short time she had back in the village.
Here are a few more images of mum taken at various times since 1969.
